The Common froglet is the smallest and most common frog in the district, found in forests, grasslands and coastal urban areas. They shelter under logs or leaf litter, usually near water. Males call all year round, while floating or at the water’s edge, often in a large chorus. Eggs attached to plants at the bottom of pools hatch into tadpoles and quickly metamorphose into tiny frogs. They prey on small insects, and come in many earthy colours and patterns. Common froglets are predated by cats, snakes and water birds.
